CD Transport Lookup

Over the years I've worked on a few CD players and one of the big problems is that some of the early Philips CD mechs have gone out of production. I started compiling a matrix of what CD players had what CD transport and if there were replacements available to determine what sort of CD players were worth fixing. Since working on CD players requires a pile of specialist gear and some experience, I didn't see any issue in publishing it here. The 1990s was the peak of digital audio and there are lots of players from the era that I feel handle CD reproduction better than modern, unemotive Wolfson based players.

Some Philips transports have multiple names and this lookup groups the ones that I know:

  • CDM12.1/CDM12.2 -> VAM1201/1202 (these appear to be interchangeable but not verified)
  • CDM12.4/05 -> VAM1204
  • CDM12.5
